Udja Comments for Joomla 1.6 - 1.0 RC1

Well, it's been an eventful couple of weeks and I apologise for taking so long to get this second version, but I'm so happy with testing and the updates that I have jumped from beta 0.3 rite to RC1. The reason for this is I don't intend on any major bugs being left over. One issue is due to a mistake on the original release of the beta 0.3 will not be automatically upgradeable, however, you can install udja comments rc1 straight over the top of udja comments 0.3 beta with no config/data loss.

Udja Comments 1.0 RC1 new features

  1. ReCaptcha added (this will require a reCaptcha api key)
  2. Fixed language bugs for en-GB
  3. pt-BR and se-SE native translations have been added. Thankyou Alex Castro and Kristian
  4. users name/email pre-populated when logged into frontend
  5. Content plugin created to use with articles
  6. Content plugin hook to display X comments on blog layouts
  7. auto-updater fixed (please note due to a bug in Joomla this will NOT WORK untill Joomla 1.7 stable is released - due in the next couple of weeks)
  8. javascript reply to other post fixed

Udja Comments pre-existing features list

  1. Supports nested comments (replying to others comments)
  2. Has basic spam detection, word/ip/email/domain filtering.
  3. Avatar & Gravatar support
  4. Fully using framework, LANG/HTML are both overrideable without core-hacks.
  5. Uses a module for the comments so can be used with any component, not restricted to content.
  6. Can be ordered oldest->newest or newest->oldest
  7. Form position (above or below comments)
  8. Pagination, and customisation of per-page
  9. Automatic updates to component using Joomla 1.6 update section
  10. Extension CSS can be turned on or off.

That's it for now, I hope everyone has much more enjoyment with this updated version of udja comments. Please, if you like the extension and are using it consider rating the extension at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/contacts-and-feedback/articles-comments/17473 to help the project grow!

NB: If you cannot see comments on the frontend after install, goto extensions->plugin manager, then locate "Content  - udjacomments" and ensure it is publishe

    Hi Guys,

I have posted this fix previously in the comments, it will be in the RC2 (sorry it's taking so long) but a quick fix for you guys if you edit plugins/content/udjacomments/udjacomments.php and insert this code:

//no show if we're in the admin area!
    if (stristr(JURI::current(), 'administrator')) { return false; }

at line 30 this will fix it for you in the meantime.

    Hi guys,

Just an update re: bug fixing...

I am aware of the following bugs:
    - Name not displaying on frontend
    - Category restrictions not working
    - Comments are incorrectly being labelled as spam
    - Recaptcha not appearing

    Requested Features:
    - Joomla 1.5 jComments Import
    - Use article ID not URL for com_content
    - Only allow commenting for users who are logged in.

    Other bits:
    More translations coming!

I expect to release RC2 in the next week or so (sorry I'm very busy with the new JED listing redesign ATM) - http://community.joomla.org/blogs/community/1458-jed-listing-redesign-and-enhanced-features.html

@everyone - Sorry about the recaptcha bug, if you edit /modules/mod_udjacomments/helper.php and navigate to method getRecaptcha() and insert this "return $recaptcha;" around line 349 after "$recaptcha->privateKey = $privateKey;" and before "}" you will have a fix in place, RC2 has this fix so don't worry about the next update breaking your change :) recaptcha will work after this.

    Hi
Already had this component installed with the module and it works. The problem is I wanna put the module under the articles. It seems there is no position for that, any workaround...?
Moreover, how could I inset a link which offers adding a comment or shows the number of comments that have been left before, under the article beside the ReadMore bottom ...?

You can not use my CSS by simply going into module manager->udjacomments and on the params on the RH side disable CSS styling.

In RC2 all parameters will be moved to the options button in the admin panel.

    Nice one! But "Content Settings
Filter by categorie" doesn't seem to work if you have choosen a category and have a blog layout on the front page. There are links "x comments" but when you click the link and go the article page there is no form. If you set filter to "no" it will show, but I don't want to have comments on all pages :)

And why do the webmaster have to approve all comments before publishing, that should be a choise in the settings.

Hey Andy, the RC1 was easily updated and working great. Thanks for the effort. Just a few things to point out for future updates.

Your comment has succesfully (successfully) been submitted, please be aware that your post may required (require) moderation before being publicly viewable.

1)Two typos in above statement, also this above statement appears on the top of the page and not on the bottom where it would be easier seen.

    2) The name of the poster is not appearing in the comment.

    3) I set up my public and private recaptcha but it is not appearing on the comment, am I missing something?

Thanks again for a great extension, we really do appreciate the effort.

Review and rating left for you on Joomla under wilee.

Thanks Andy, that's done the trick. There's still the very minor issue of there being no comments module/plugin visible on my home page [quivis.co.uk/joomla] till "0 comments" is clicked. Excellent plugin! Duncan

@brent/duncan I have fixed this in my trunk version, a quick fix for you guys if you edit plugins/content/udjacomments/udjacomments.php and insert this code:

//no show if we're in the admin area!
    if (stristr(JURI::current(), 'administrator')) { return false; }

at line 30 this will fix it for you in the meantime.

Yeah, I just experienced the same thing as Duncan...

I went into media manger to select a new banner in the banner components and this error was inside the media manager pop up...

"Fatal error: Class 'ContentHelperRoute' not found in /home/nngirlfr/public_html/adreviews.tk/plugins/content/udjacomments/udjacomments.php on line 54" (- the quotes)

I think there must be a problem with the plugin part of udjacomments_1.0rc1. The component itself seems to work fine but there is a problem from the back end with media manager, both viewing and uploading, and browsing to image files to insert in articles.

Here's a screenshot of the media manager; www.quivis.co.uk/images/forum/joomla16-backend-media1.jpg

    [cut]

With your plugin turned on, when trying to upload images they don't appear in media manager nor are they visible when trying to browse to them for insertion in an article. But the images ARE in fact there as I can access them via FTP.

Turning the module off makes no difference [to the media manager] but when the plugin is turned off all is restored to normal, and all uploaded images are visible. But then of course the comments component is also off.

Well in that case it is RC1...

I will go through and try out more settings and features for you to see what works and what doesn't on my installation... and post it up tonight or tomorrow...

RC1 com is an all-in-one which means it contains all parts of the extension (component, module, and plugin).

This is all part of the 1.6 streamlining of extension management for users, it means that they'll all be updateable through the "update" are in extension manager.

If you goto `extensions`->`extension manager`->`manage` and look to see if udjacomments module is 0.3 beta or 1.0rc1

    I don't think so...

1st I installed the beta com and mod packages

    2nd I installed the rc1 com package (com_udjacomments_1.0rc1.zip)

I didn't do anything else... not sure how the plugin got in there to be honest, was it part of one of those packages?

Can I confirm you mod_udjacomments is now at 1.0rc1?

I see the reply commenting works now! Good Job!

    A few mentions...

The file labeled "udjacomments_EXTRACT_BEFORE_INSTALLING.zip" is missing, leads to a 404 so you should either get the link right or remove it from the downloads page. I installed the Com_RC1 so if there was an update to the Module or an an additional plugin you made, those I have not installed due to this reason.

Still does not auto publish if website field is left blank, no matter what you set as requirements in the back end...

I really like this extension and hope to be around for the final release version.

About leaving a review of the extension on Joomla.org, its not working... I keep logging in but I click to submit a review and I am automatically logged out. I will try again in a few days to see if anything changes... not sure whats up with that.
